OCCII POSTER EXPO (Amsterdam)
Since more than 15 years now the volunteer-run venue OCCII in Amsterdam Oud Zuid is programming live music, dance parties and events for children of the neighborhood.
Ever since the beginning the programme was announced with mostly handmade posters: xeroxed, silkscreened, but also a lot of experimental offset printing in the early years.
During the time of Incubate a big part of the poster archive will be shown in the small room of the Paradox. Drop by and have a peak into the history of the OCCII!
MOEMLIEN (Amsterdam) *
MOEMLIEN is the solo project of Hannah Giese. She is exploring the many sides of the tape as a medium of soundcarrying and manipulation of prerecorded material into dense layered drones of the extraterrestrial kind. Soundsources for her adventures are electronics, modified keyboards, violoncello, various acoustic objects & instruments and voice. Hannah is part of the happening makers group "Hallo Gallo".
MONOTONOS (Amsterdam) *
Monotonos, is the solo project of Roger NBH, who designs the Bake sleeves. As his chosen moniker might suggest, the music is in the main minimalistic, repetitive and comprised of slow, distended slabs of gravelised sound, where sheer dark density is everything.
Pamelia Kurstin & Seb Rochford (usa / uk) *
Sebastian "Seb" Rochford is a British drummer who spans many musical genres. He leads Polar Bear, both part of the F-IRE Collective.

Munchi (Rotterdam, NL) *
This half Dominican Republic / half Dutch wonderkid from Rotterdam is the most promising and prolific basshead of his generation, single-handedly putting moombahton (essentially a cross between reggaeton and (slowed down) Dutch house) on the map here in Holland.
Gizmog (Hamburg, Germany) *
Hailing from Germany, Hamburg's Gizmog is not only one, he was and is many. As Taprikk Sweezee he collaborated with Michael Fakesh, Mouse On Mars and Towa Tei. He also runs the label Zoikmusic. Like a dark wobbling grindstone bass scrubbing it down, Gizmog masterly manouvres between any type of modern bass music. Beneath all the shuffle and scrape, delay and destruction, lies a heart of soul and rough granular electro dirtyness that insitent repeats: dance if you can.
Sonido Martines (Argentinië) *
Argentine figurehead of the South American cumbia scenes. In his mixes, Argentine and Colombian Cumbia meet Vallenato and Chicha, Dub hits upon electronic music, and Hip Hop gets married to Latin American street rhythms. A tireless seeker of lost vinyl and remixer of Cumbia classics, shaking up the dancefloors with a wide selection of tropical music from all over Latin America. His sets feature a wide array of vintage psychedelic cumbia and other tropical beat, almost doubling as history lessons

hands is also responsible for the tapelabel “silver ghosts” and ran the experimental music evenings “hellbaard” in denhaag.
THALE (Utrecht) *
Guitarriffs that make you think of a sunny day on a toendra. Spun out melodies that hit you right in the heart. For this evening he trades in his electric guitar and piles of amps for the solitude of the acoustic.
TI FEMME (USA) *
“Ti femme” is actually Helena Sanders. A musician and artist from the US who is currently residing in Amsterdam. Her solo shows are based around the accordeon but are very divers. Sometimes more experimental and noisy,
sometimes more towards a rough singer-songwriter atmosphere. Next to making music this lady is also a painter and is running the travelling music label “unfinished business”, on which her soon to be released solo cd will appear.

ORCHESTRE TOUT PUISSANT MARCEL DUCHAMP (Swiss) *
Afrogarage, post-punk... The Ex meets Fela Kuti?!
...the instrumentation is appropriately bizarre - trombone, marimba, fiddle, guitar, drums and double-bass. This Swiss band is surreal in the true sense: more than art, it's a way of life; of living on the edge of your senses.
REBEL UP! DJ'S (all over the place!) *
*Diasporic sounds from the global underground*
ISSA BAGAYOGO (Mali) *
Issa Bagayogo has been nicknamed Techno-Issa in his home country of Mali and, as his fame spreads, in other parts of the world too. Techno music is in stark contrast to Issa's rural background 30 miles from the nearest town in southern Mali. While working on the family farm he started singing and played traditional instruments: a bell called the daro and also a six-stringed harp called kamele n'goni (the three-stringed n'goni is more of a spiritual instrument, so Issa plays the six-stringed one that is better for secular music).

Cinema Soloriens and the Cosmo-Drama:

Experimental Films by James Harrar and special screenings of rare films featuring Sun Ra and His Arkestra PLUS live musical accompaniment by Marshall Allen, Leader of The Sun Ra Arkestra and James Harrar .

This not to be missed special film program consists of
experimental shorts by Harrar and classic films featuring Sun Ra and His Arkestra from the late 60's and early 70's, rarely seen publicly, restored and preserved by Harrar.

About the program:

Wittness Marshall Allen leader of The Sun Ra Arkestra, James Harrar, Ed Wilcox (Temple of Bon Matin) perform live on stage!

Please picture Andrei Tarkovski blended with Sergei Parajdanov, think of saints and peacocks in artful mosaics, slow, moving images, fixed camara viewpoints and processed images.

Hear a superb ensemble, great masters of their crafts, play complex music resembling more along Sun Ra recordings like The Magic City and Strange Strings, sounds that are passionate, driving, haunting, nothing of the sort you could humm on your way home, but all the more powerfull and liberating. One long composition and then, at last, artfully deconstructed Space Chants to celebrate Sun Ra and his legacy.
JAMES HARRAR (Douglasville, Georgia Verenigde Staten) *
James Harrar has been crafting densely lyrical film-poems
Since the late 1980’s exhibiting at prestigious venues all over the world such as the Museum of Modern Art, Anthology Film Archives, The Andy Warhol Museum and Yamaguchi Center for Art & Media to name a few. His films are personal in a very direct and explicit sense.
In an intimate form, Harrar attempts to imprint thoughts,
dreams and conceptual ideas onto the open-minded viewer while examining the possibilities of perception. Throughout his career, Harrar has tried to give the viewer new visual experiences while challenging fixed notions of filmic language and individual seeing.
Since 1995 James has been collaborating with Marshall Allen, creating live music to Harrar’s silent films. Marshall Allen explores sound in much the same manner that Harrar attempts to explore the moving image. Together they complete a creative cycle similar in tradition with the 17th century alchemical opus.
MARSHALL ALLEN (of the Sun Ra Arkestra) (Louisville, Kentucky USA) *
During the mid-1950's, Marshall Allen met Sun Ra and became a devoted student of his musical cosmology. After joining the Sun Ra Arkestra in 1958, Marshall Allen led Sun Ra's reed section for over 40 years. He is featured on over 200 Sun Ra releases, while appearing as special guest soloist in concert and on recordings with diverse groups such as NRBQ, Phish, Sonic Youth, and Medeski, Martin & Wood. Allen assumed the helm of the Sun Ra Arkestra in 1995 after the ascension of Sun Ra in 1993 and John
Gilmore in 1995. Marshall Allen plays the alto saxophone, flute, clarinet, oboe, kora and E.V.I. (Electronic Valve Instrument).

DNK & MKM! presents: JAPANESE NEW MUSIC FESTIVAL 2010
TSUYAMA ATSUSHI (Japan)
Tsuyama is best known for his monster bass in Acid Mothers Temple, but he also has amazing technique of guitar and vocal. his He has travelled around the world and accumulated the traditional styles of guitars/vocals in europe and asia. he adds his own interpretations and
lyrical sense to create a beautiful but odd "fake traditional" musical world. recently he developed a new figure called "prog.rock > blues-ization plan". he dismantle the masterpiece of progressive rock, and restructure it as an impromptu blues.
AKATEN (Japan)
(Tsuyama/Yoshida)
Formed in 1995 with the motto of "irresponsibleness" and
"perfunctoriness." They easily free themselves from the spell of the traditional seriousness of the art. Using daily commodities like scissors, toothbrush, zipper, camera, and plastic bottle as percussions, and shouting their brand names over and over as the "songs," the show is performed under the concept of low cost and maximum sound effect. AKATEN is the experimental convenience store punk band that provides the sound images of cheap and simple daily lives.
ZOFFY (Japan)
(Tsuyama/Kawabata)
Formed in 1998. Zoffy's music hints both at the members' deep musical knowledge via their improvised performances of troubadour music and European trad, and also at their deep love for rock via their destructivist covers of classic rock songs, that no longer sounds like anything but ZOFFY. The group believes that humor is essential in music, and their unprecedented performances stray far from the beaten track. Is this the Ultima Thule that rock music has long been aiming for?
RUINS ALONE (Japan)
(Yoshida Tatsuya solo)
Yoshida is one of the most innovative drummer/composer/improviser in Japan's new music scene. pioneer of Drum & Bass duo RUINS was founded by Yoshida in '85 . Tunes are complicated and mysterious, and songs are sung in the language of their own invention. It's high-tension, wild, heavy, speedy, acute, and powerful tremendous ensemble never sounds like they are only two players. now RUINS had no bassist and currently he has been playing as RUINS ALONE. playing RUINS songs with sampling bass.
KAWABATA MAKOTO (Japan)
Kawabata Makoto is best known for his speed-demon noise-fuzz guitar in Acid Mothers Temple, but he is also widely active as an unparalleled drone guitarist. Drawing upon a huge reservoir of original techniques including metal glissando and bow-work that can summon up the sound of
a string ensemble or orchestra, his work in this area cannot be simply categorized as minimal, drone or experimental. You'll find it hard to believe that a single guitar can create sonic worlds of such meditative and elegant depth.
ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE SWR (Japan)
(Kawabata/Tsuyama/Yoshida)
Acid Mothers Temple have rapidly become acclaimed as the greatest, most extreme trip psychedelic group in the world. Releases have appeared on labels around the world at an amazing pace, and the magnificence of their live performances is already being whispered of as legendary. SWR is the AMT Family's most powerful battle-formation
yet. featuring Tsuyama and Kawabata from the original AMT and Yoshida from Ruins. their crushingly acute freakout sound will pulverize the world's legions of wannabe psych groups.
ZUBI ZUVA X (Japan)
(Yoshida/Tsuyama/Kawabata)
Eccentric poly-rhythmic a cappella ensemble. It covers from Gregorian chant to ethnic music, to do-wop to hardcore screaming, heavily using irregular rhythms and polyrhythm. All sorts of ideas and aberrant musicality overturn the image of a cappella. their totally meaningless
lyrics and desperate performances throw the audiences into the abyss of the laughter and admiration. it makes the concept of "singing ability"nonsense.
